The microspheres consist of a polymer shell encapsulating a gas. Elasticity All EXPANCEL ® grades are highly resilient. Thanks to this resiliency the EXPANCEL ® microspheres can withstand several cycles of loading/unloading without breaking. This is very important when the microspheres are used in shock absorbent materials but also when pumping the microspheres, alone or in various mixtures. Chemical resistance EXPANCEL ® microspheres can be used in contact with many chemicals, including solvents without discoloration or negative effects on ex-pansion or other properties. Unexpanded microspheres are used as a blowing agent. This phenomenon is used in printing inks to get three-dimensional patterns on paper, wallpaper, textiles etc. Screen printing and gravure printing are two common techniques when applying expandable printing inks. When added to PVC-plastisols for underbody coatings the good thermo-mechanical properties of unexpanded EXPANCEL ® microspheres provide a cured plasti-sol with low density at a wide gelation area of the plastisol. The microspheres give a controlled ex-pansion with a narrow interval of the plastisol density and uniform cells, which are evenly distributed, much more uniform than with chemical blowing agents. Using EXPANCEL WU or DU as a blowing agent in printing inks will produce a nice velvety structured surface and the process of puffing will be, technically, less demanding. The resiliency of the microspheres will improve the printing properties of the paper even to mat surfaces. EXPANCEL ® unexpanded microspheres can also be added to formulations for coating EXPANCEL ® microspheres are used in a wide variety of commercial applications as a light weight filler. The microspheres can be added either in the pre-expanded form, alone or in combination with other fillers, or as unexpanded microspheres. EXPANCEL ® microspheres are added to paints to lower their weight and hence save energy and work and make them easier to handle. In addition to their weight reducing property the microspheres give the paints better applicability and lower their tendency to splash when the paints are applied with a roller. In polyurethane coatings the microspheres improve shock-, vibration- and sound absorption. Low after-sinking and shrinkage is the result when microspheres are added to underbody coatings. Dry, unexpanded microsphere. Used as a blowing agent in in printing inks to get three-dimensional patterns on paper, wallpaper, textiles, screen and gravure printing inks, PVC-plastisols for underbody coatings, polyurethane coatings and paints. Offers high resiliency, ability to withstand several cycles of loading/unloading without breaking, good chemical resistance and good thermo-mechanical properties. Provides low density, controlled expansion and uniform cells, reduction of weight, easy application and low after-sinking and shrinkage. Improves shock-, vibration- and sound absorption. Produces a nice velvety structured surface in printing inks. Lowers tendency to splash when paints are applied with a roller.
