T-Amyl Peroxypivalate. Offers the widest range of activity among all the classes of organic peroxides available. Used extensively as initiators in free radical polymerization.
It is soluble in most organic solvents and insoluble in water.
Various contaminants, particularly oxidizing and reducing agents and metal salts, can cause decomposition.
The major products from the decompositions of peroxyesters are carbon dioxide, aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, alkenes, ethers, tertiary alcohols, carboxylic acids and ketones such as acetone and acetophenone.
