Ascinin® P is used as an anti-skinning agent in clear and pigmented lacquers and paints based on drying oils, alkyd resins and other oils. In primers, Ascinin® P prevents lifting during over-coating. In baking paints, it eliminates surface defects Properties Ascinin® P improves the through-drying of paint systems which dry by oxidation and counteracts wrinkling and skinning. By virtue of its chemical nature, Ascinin® P retards initial drying, thereby eliminating flow defects and improving spreadability. Acceleration of through-drying improves gloss and film hardness. In primers, addition of Ascinin® P prevents lifting during over-spraying. Since the active substance in Ascinin® P is not very volatile, the product also counteracts wrinkling even in baking paints based, for example, on ricin alkyds. Applications Ascinin® P is used in paint systems which dry by oxidation based on drying oils, alkyd resins, etc. lt is suitable for both clear and pigmented systems and exhibits good binder compatibility. Ascinin® P is also used in primers and baking enamels. Mixing and addition rate Ascinin® P is easy to use and is simply stirred gently into the coating. lt must not be added at the same time as driers. The addition rate of Ascinin® P is dependent on the particular coating system and the desired properties. From experience, an addition rate of 1 - 2 %relative to the nonvolatile The optimum addition rate for the area of application in question should be determined beforehand in trials. Must not be added at the same time as driers. Recommended usage level: 1 - 2 % relative to the nonvolatile binder. When using pigments which retard the drying process, the addition rate should be reduced. With unpigmented or very light-coloured paints, it must be kept in mind that it may cause slight yellowing. In order to prevent lifting in primers, an addition rate of around 2% relative to non-volatile binder is recommended. In baking paints, an addition rate of 0.5 - 1% relative to non-volatile alkyd resin prevents wrinkling. Excessive addition rates impair hardness and colour consistency.
