Aqueous zinc oxide paste
Description
Borchers® VP 9802 is an aqueous paste based on zinc oxide. It is a micronized zinc oxide variant (Bayoxide® Z aktiv). The paste is highly pseudoplastic and can be liquefied by the application of low shear forces, e.g. pumping.
Properties/Applications
Borchers® VP 9802 is an aqueous pigment paste used in, for example, emulsion paints and water-borne industrial coatings. The zinc oxide protects against UV radiation and, in wood coatings, acts as a barrier to wood infiltrates. In particular, emulsions paints for outdoor applications are stabilized against the effects of weathering. Used in indoor emulsion paints, Borchers® VP 9802 acts as a nicotine barrier.
Borchers® VP 9802 can also be used as an additive in solvent-free adhesive dispersions (Dispercoll® C). Zinc oxide is a key component in these adhesive formulations. Borchers® VP 9802 acts as an acid acceptor and thus helps stabilize the adhesive dispersion. In solid adhesive films, zinc oxide slows crosslinking, thus increasing the strength and heat stability of the bond.
Addition
For emulsion paints, an addition of 5-7 % Borchers® VP 9802 is recommended.
In adhesive dispersions, an addition of 4-5 % Borchers® VP 9802, calculated on the polymer dispersion, is recommended.
