Borchers® VP 9950 (Trial Product) 14
Primary drier for waterborne, oxidatively drying coatings
Description
Borchers® VP 9950 is a new Vanadium-based drier for usage as a primary drier in waterborne oxidatively drying coatings. It can be a substitute for other primary driers, especially for cobalt containing siccatives.
Properties
Borchers® VP 9950 causes a fast drying of the film surface and also a good through-drying of the applied film. The drying results are comparable to those obtained with cobalt containing systems such as Octa-Soligen® Cobalt 7 aqua.
The drying ability of coating systems siccativated with Borchers® VP 9950 remains constant even after extended storage.
Applications
Borchers® VP 9950 can be used in nearly all waterbased oxidatively drying coatings with the exception of strongly basic adjusted paints. In those systems occasionally incompatibilities caused by precipitation of the drier components has been observed.
Mixing and Addition Rate
Borchers® VP 9950 can be added to the paint system in any formulation step. We recommend its addition in a final process step of the coatings manufacturing prior to adding an anti-skinning additive.
A dilution with water or any organic solvent is not suggested. The required amount of Borchers® VP 9950 depends on the particularly used binder and should be determined empirically in preceding investigations. Usual amounts are approx. 0,03 to 0,06 % Vanadium by weight based on the solid content of the binder.
The additional application of other Octa-Soligen® driers may result in improved through-drying efficiency and drying acceleration due to synergistically effects. The supplementary addition of Calcium driers should be avoided. We recommend the use of Octa-Soligen® Lithium 2 as an alternative.
