It is highly economical to use and produces low-spattering coatings with outstanding roller/brush application properties and good physical properties in terms of leveling and running, etc. This has an indirect positiv effect on other coating properties such as cover rate, gloss, mar resistance, etc. In various binders, Borchi® Gel VP 0024 produces newtonian flow in medium and high sheer range. Combined with low-shear thickeners such as Borchi® PW 25 or Borchi® LW 44, pseudoplastic rheology profiles can be customized for the intended application. Borchi® Gel VP 0024 has good compatibility and is easy to incorporate. Properties Borchi® Gel VP 0024 can be used to achieve viscosities at high shear rate that ensure adequate brush/roller resistance (braking) during application. A comparatively high viscosity at high shear also prevents the paint from spattering off the brush or roller as the result of centrifugal forces. Controlling spattering via the rheology is an important quality characteristic, like the surface properties of a coating, and can be optimized using Borchi® Gel VP 0024. Applications Borchi® Gel VP 0024 is ideal for thickening emulsion paints and industrial coatings. In emulsion paints, outstanding effectiveness is achieved, especially when using pure acrylate or styrene/acrylate binders. However, Borchi® Gel VP 0024 can also be used to thicken formulations containing other binders such as aqueous methacrylate copolymer dispersions or vinyl acetate/ethene copolymers. Moreover, Borchi® Gel VP 0024 has been found to be effective in waterborne 2K-PUR formulations based on, for example, polyester polyols or polyacrylates. Mixing and Addition Rate The recommended addition is approx. 0.1 - 2 % thickener, calculated on the total formulation. Borchi® Gel VP 0024 can be used without difficulty both thinned (e.g. 10 % solution in water) and 100 % in waterborne coatings, thus allowing optimum handling during production. As a result, production times are minimized and costs reduced. Non-ionic polyurethane-based thickener for emulsion paints and waterborne coatings.
