It can be incorporated directly into the mill base of coatings and emulsion paints but is also particularly suitable for addition after formulation of the coating. As the product contains no liquid volatile organic compounds, it is entirely VOC-free and therefore makes an active contribution to environmental protection. As a result of special manufacturing techniques, Borchi® Gel VP 0130 is characterized by its extremely high active content. Consequently, the storage space requirement is lower compared with conventional thickeners, thus reducing costs. Properties Owing to the optimum distribution of the active substance on an inert carrier material, Borchi® Gel VP 0130 is easy to incorporate – also after formulation – in waterborne coatings and emulsion paints. The product develops its optimum effect especially in the low-shear range, although it is also highly effective in the high-shear range, for example, during application by brushing and rolling. Applications Borchi® Gel VP 0130 is particularly suitable for thickening waterborne emulsion paints and industrial coatings. In emulsion paints, outstanding effectiveness is achieved in the low-shear range, especially when using pure acrylate or styrene/acrylate binders. However, Borchi® Gel VP 0130 can also be used to thicken formulations containing other binders such as aqueous methacrylate copolymer dispersions. Moreover, Borchi® Gel VP 0130 has been found to be effective in pigmented waterborne 2K-PUR formulations based on, for example, polyester polyols or polyacrylates. Mixing and Addition Rate The recommended addition is 0.1 - approx. 1 % thickener, calculated on the total formulation. The exact addition should be determined by pre-trials.
