Description Borchi® Gen 12 is a nonionic, solventfree wetting and dispersing agent for aqueous and solvent-borne pigment pastes, emulsion paints and lacquers. Specification Appearance: slightly yellowish liquid Viscosity approx. 500 mPas DIN 53 019 (23°C, D = 70 1/s) Iodine color number: max. 7 DIN 6 162 pH-value: 5-7 (10% in water) DIN 19 268 Density (20°C) 1.02 - 1.06 g/cm³ DIN 51 757 Properties Borchi® Gen 12 improves pigment wetting and shortens the dispersion process. lt effectively inhibits pigment flocculation, thereby stabilizing consistency, color intensity and shade, particularly during prolonged storage of finished paint and paste formulations. Borchi® Gen 12 has a good resistance to weak acids, alkalis, salts and substances causing hardness of water. Applications Borchi® Gen 12 is especially used for high concentrated pigment pastes. The single use of Borchi® Gen 12 gives very good results with organic pigments. In formulations of pigment pastes on the base of inorganic pigments the combination of Borchi® Gen 12 with Borchi® Gen ND is recommended. It is as well possible to prepare lacquers and emulsion paints with Borchi® Gen 12. There it stabilizes the entire system and prevents flocculation. Borchi® Gen 12 is compatible excellently with CAB- und NC-containing systems. Mixing and addition rate The addition rate varies depending on type and surface finish of the pigment. The amount needed should be determined separately in each case. A guideline for organic pigments is an addition rate of 20 - 40 % based on pigment. For inorganic pigments the addition rate is 6 - 10% Borchi® Gen 12 in combination with 0.5 - 1.5 % Borchi® Gen ND. 0.1 - 1 % Borchi® Gen 12 used in lacquers and emulsion paints stabilizes the entire system and prevents flocculation.
