Borchi® Gen SN 95 3
Wetting and dispersing agent for organic and inorganic pigments in aqueous coatings
Description
Borchi® Gen SN 95 is a 25% preparation of a polyurethane oligomer dissolved in water with excellent wetting and deflocculation properties.
Properties
Borchi® Gen SN 95 improves pigment wetting and shortens the dispersion process. lt effectively inhibits pigment flocculation, thereby stabilising consistency, color intensity and shade, particularly during prolonged storage of finished paint and paste formulations. By creating charges on the surface of the pigment particles, this additive yields an optimum state of suspension, thereby preventing settling and hard sediment.
A further advantage of this additive is the potential for reducing the organic pigment content of the formulation by taking full advantage of color intensity development. The additive helps to reduce raw material and dispersion costs.
Borchi® Gen SN 95 enhances the gloss and haze of finishing paints.
Applications
For high-grade industrial paints such as automotive paints, automotive refinishing paints and pigmented furniture paints. lt is used principally with aqueous binders. Compatibility and efficiency in the following systems are given:
- pure acrylic dispersions
- alkyd / melamine
- polyurethane
- based and epoxy resin paints (one- and two-component)
- saturated and unsaturated polyesters
- alkyd resins emulsifiable in water
Borchi® Gen SN 95 is effective with most conventional inorganic pigments such as iron oxide and titanium dioxide, chrome green, etc. Particular efficiency has been noted with the following pigments:
- irgazine red
- carbon blacks (gas black FW 200)
- phthalocyanine blue
Mixing and addition rate
Depending on pigment type and surface finish, addition rates of up to 100% relative to pigment content may be necessary.
Recommended addition rates are 1 - 8% Borchi® Gen SN 95 for inorganic pigments and 5 - 25% for organic pigments, in each case relative to active ingredients.
Borchi® Gen SN 95 is best added prior to dispersion, thereby considerably shortening the dispersion process
