Borchi® Nox M 2 is an excellent anti-skinning agent for paint systems containing oil and does not significantly affect drying. Properties Borchi® Nox M 2 delays the onset of drying of clear lacquers without affecting through-drying. In wrinkle-finish paints containing oil, Borchi® Nox M 2 exhibits very good anti-skinning action without adversely affecting wrinkle formation. In stoving paints based on binders which dry by oxidation, Borchi® Nox M 2 prolongs the open time of the film, thereby preventing flow problems and blistering. Borchi® Nox M 2 does not cause yellowing or discoloration and exhibits no undesirable reactivity in finished paint systems. Applications Borchi® Nox M 2 is used as an anti-skinning agent in air- and stove-drying lacquers and pigmented paints. Borchi® Nox M 2 is particularly effective in paint systems based on drying oils, alkyd resins, epoxy esters and other refined drying oils. Mixing and addition rate In view of its volatility, Borchi® Nox M 2 should only be added before the finished paint is poured into the can. lt is incorporated by gentle stirring. Simultaneous addition of Borchi® Nox M 2 with driers is to be avoided. On account of the volatility of Borchi® Nox M 2, paint systems modified with this product may only be stored in sealed containers. Addition rates and efficacy are dependent on the particular binder system, the pigments used and their tendency towards skinning and need to be determined beforehand in trials. Pigmented paints require on average 30% higher addition rates than corresponding clear coating systems. For guidance, the following addition rates were determined in Applications Development trials and are relative in each case to the finished paint: short-oil paints 0.1 - 0.15% medium-oil alkyd resin paints 0.15 - 0.2% long - oil clear lacquers and long - oil, fast drying alkyd resin paints 0.3% Synthetic organic anti-skinning agent containing no nonvolatile components for air- and stove-drying lacquers and pigmented paints based on drying oils, alkyd resins, epoxy esters and other refined drying oils.
