Borchi® Set Paste UZ is suitable for use in paints containing solvents and effectively inhibits formation of hard sediment, even when heavy pigments are used. Properties - Easy to incorporate with conventional high-shear dispersing machines. - Thickening and thixotropic effects unaffected by temperature. - Wetting of pigments and fillers or metal powders. - Reduces a paint's tendency to run on vertical surfaces. - Higher film strength during application. - Considerably reduces gas formation with zinc-rich paints. - No effect on drying, hardness, gloss and weathering resistance. Applications With its anti-settling action, Borchi® Set Paste UZ is an excellent suspending agent for pigments and fillers. lt is also highly effective when used with heavy pigments and metal powders, offering particular advantages in zinc-rich paints for example. Borchi® Set Paste UZ is an effective thixotropic agent and thickener for paints based on cold-curing epoxy resins, epoxy resin esters, alkyd resins, chlorinated and cyclised rubber, DD systems, vinyl resin polymers and copolymers. Mixing and addition rate Although Borchi® Set Paste UZ can be incorporated into paints by all conventional means, addition of the paste to the mill base is recommended. For its incorporation into zinc-rich paints, a high-speed mixer should be used. Empirically determined addition rates are generally between 1 and 3%. The optimum addition rate depending on the nature and extent of the tendency towards sedimentation should nevertheless be determined beforehand in trials.
