Octa-Soligen® 69 provides paint formulators with a lead-free combination drier which is almost universally usable and yields optimum drying results in all binders which dry by oxidation. Properties Cobalt effects rapid surface drying while zirconium functions as an active auxiliary drier, promoting through-drying. The balanced ratio of the metals cobalt and zirconium in Octa-Soligen® 69 yields optimum results in respect of initial- and through-drying. Octa-Soligen® 69 is of low-viscosity, readily meterable and particularly suitable for white and light-coloured paint systems. Applications Octa-Soligen® 69 can be used in all binder systems which dry by oxidation and is particularly suitable for white and light-coloured paints. Cloudiness and precipitation do not occur. Mixing and addition rate Experiments have shown that the necessary addition rate of Octa-Soligen® 69 should be between 0.25 and 1.0% relative to the binder, depending on the binder and the pigment system. This is equivalent to a cobalt content of 0.015 to 0.06%. When using pigments which retard the drying process such as carbon black or toluidine red, a higher addition rate or special stabilisation may be necessary. Suitable stabilisers are Octa-Soligen® Barium 12.5 and in particular Octa-Soligen® Calcium 10 which, in conjunction with cobalt and zirconium, further accelerates the drying process and provides long-term drier stability.
