Octa-Soligen® Cerium 14
Description
Cerium improves the through-drying and polymerization of the paint film and increases the chemical resistance to ageing.
Cerium is not recommended for use in pale-colored and clear coatings as it may result in yellowing. Combined with cobalt, it retains good drying properties even at low temperatures.
Properties
Like cobalt or manganese, cerium is a primary drier but it is far less active. At low temperatures, e.g. below 0 °C, or at very high atmospheric humidity, its effectiveness is higher than that of other primary driers.
Applications
Octa-Soligen Cerium is therefore used in systems which are to be applied in conditions corresponding to those described above or it is used as an additional drier with cobalt, manganese or lead. The extreme tendency of cerium to yellow must always be borne in mind.
Addition
In our experience, the percentage addition of cerium, calculated on the metal content per binder (solid), is approx. 0.01 - 0.1 % Ce.
The exact amount required depends on the binder used.
