CARRYBON L-400 is a poly carboxylic acid type pigment ispersing agent. It gives very high efficiency in dispersing inorganic pigments into water and also in lowering the viscosity of pigment slurries. CARRYBON L-400 allows the formulation of highly concentrated pigment suspensions which are otherwise difficult to obtain. CARRYBON L-400 offers the following advantages in paint systems: 1. Flexibility 2. Gloss retention 3. Lower surfactant requirements 4. Viscosity stability 5. Total colour development 6. Excellent scrub resistance7. Energy saver
CARRYBON L-400 GIVES THE WIDEST FLEXIBILITY IN FORMULATING PAINT SYSTEMS. HERE'S WHAT IT OFFERS
High Efficiency CARRYBON L-400 is a highly efficient dispersant. It is effective at low dosages and needs no additional wetting agents nor dispersants in the grind.Dispersant demand tests in numerous pigment systems show consistently low minimum grind viscosities and low optimum dosages. The flat L-shaped contour of the curves means it is virtually
impossible to overdose the dispersant. You can therefore choose a level of CARRYBON L-400 that will allow for batch-to-batch variation in pigment and thereby maintain the maximum optical and physical properties of the coating.
Excellent Gloss RetetionCARRYBON L-400 demonstrates excellent initial gloss and superior gloss retention after heat ageing in gloss and semi-gloss systems including acrylics
and vinyl acrylics. CARRYBON L-400 is completely compatible in ethylene and propylene glycol, permitting its use in glycol based grinds. Lower Surfactant Requirements
CARRYBON L-400 as the primary pigment dispersant often allows for decreased levels or even complete removal of other surfactants. This is accomplished with no detrimental effects on pigment dispersion, colour development, flow levelling or
wetting. he result is improved water resistance, cost savings and less foam. Viscosity Stability Paint formulations using CARRYBON L-400 consistently exhibit exceptionally stable viscosities with heat aged samples (excess of one month at
50°C) exhibiting negligible changes in viscosity. Total Colour Development CARRYBON L-400 promotes total colour
development, even with difficult-to-disperse pigments like red iron oxide. In fact, paint manufacturers add CARRYBON L-400 to paint systems based on pigment slurries to improve colour
development. Field results also show that substituting CARRYBON L-400 as the primary pigment dispersant in existing tint formulations allows removal of wetting agents with no detrimental effect on colour development and with a positive
effect on water resistance and cost. Compatibility with Reactive Pigments CARRYBON L-400 is exceptionally compatible with
reactive pigments such as zinc oxide. For example, you can use it as the sole pigment dispersant in the grind of formulations containing up to 22.3 kg zinc oxide. The resulting paints show flat viscosity curves with no (2 KU or less) rise in viscosity or any
deterioration of grind after heat ageing at 50 °C for one month. No auxiliary dispersants or wetting agents such as KTPP or nonionic surfactants need be used. Excellent Scrub Resistance CARRYBON L-400 offers two-fold formulating advantage - lower use levels and less need for other wetting agents for dispersing and colour development. This results in superior water
resistance in the dry film. Energy Saver CARRYBON L-400 enables mixing to be carried out at reduced power consumption due to the viscosity lowering ability of the dispersant during the early stages of the mixing. Substantial cost savings in
energy therefore are achieved. Application CARRYBON L-400 is a primary pigment dispersant for titanium dioxide and extender pigments needing no additional dispersants or wetting agents. It is dispersible in propylene glycol where necessary for
gloss grinds. In formulations using TiO2 slurry, CARRYBON L-400 is completely compatible and an excellent dispersant for extender pigments. CARRYBON L-400 is effective over a wide range of concentrations. Usage levels will vary according to
pigmentation, vehicles and coating type. Levels of 0.2 % to 1.0 % dispersant solids/pigment solids should be considered. Upper range levels are applicable in high-gloss and difficult-to-disperse systems. Lower range levels are effective in flats and
lower RMc coatings. CARRYBON L-400 also improves colour development in difficult systems when post-added at low levels for this purpose. STUDIES SHOW IT IS ESPECIALLY EFFECTIVE AND ECONOMICAL IN PIGMENT SLURRIES
Dispersant-demand studies show superior properties resulting in maximised loading and improved economy. These studies have been conducted in numerous pigment systems including gloss and flat grades of rutile titanium dioxide, wet-ground natural and precipitated calcium carbonate, clays and colour
pigments. The superior state of dispersion obtained with CARRYBON L-400 produces maximum optical properties in the final coating. CARRYBON L-400 has also proven effective in
producing redand yellow iron oxide slurries as wellas moly-orange dispersions.Approvals FDA STATUS
