Epoxy plasticizers for the paint industry
Our EDENOL epoxy plasticizers are both high-quality stabilizers and valuable plasticizers.
They protect paints and plastics against the
influences of heat, light and weather, and thereby
improve whiteness and resistance to ageing. They
are compatible with PVC, many other plastics,
synthetic resins, plasticizers and give transparent
films. They can be hardened with acids, anhydrides,
and amines. Moreover, they remain stable even at
higher temperatures.
In addition, EDENOL plasticizers also have a wetting
and emulsifying effect, which is a property that is
advantageous in the manufacture of pigment pastes.
For example, if a pigment paste containing 350 g
Kronos 2057 and 150 g DOP, is extended with up to
20% of EDENOL D 81 (referred to DOP), an
increase of pigmentation of up to 150% is possible at
the same paste viscosity.
Epoxy plasticizers also have a favourable influence
on the viscosity stability of plastisols, especially the
alkyl epoxy stearates which have a
viscosity-decreasing effect.
The difficulties with respect to levelling, gloss
retention and yellowing, which often occur with
epoxy paints, can largely be reduced by the
simultaneous utilisation of EDENOL epoxy
plasticizers. The compatibility is dependent on the
binder and must therefore be checked in each
individual case.
The following EDENOL epoxy plasticizers are
available:
EDENOL B 35 (i-alkyl epoxy stearate)
possesses a viscosity of 30 mPa.s and yet a
sufficient stabilizing effect. The solidification point is
below -20°C.
Vinyl paint
NC car refinishing lacquer
Chlorinated rubber paint
i-Alkyl epoxy stearate. Used as a high-quality stabilizer and valuable plasticizer in vinyl and chlorinated rubber paint and nitrocellulose car refinishing lacquer. Offers protection against influences of heat, light and weather. Improves whiteness and resistance to ageing. Can be hardened with acids, anhydrides, and amines. Offers wetting and emulsifying effect. Increases pigmentation of pigment paste. Reduces difficulties with respect to levelling, gloss retention and yellowing in epoxy paints.
