Composition Fatty acid ester
Above 20 °C EDENOL® BS is a slightly yellow,
clear, almost odourless liquid. It is stable during
storage and does not turn rancid. It is easily soluble
in most common organic solvents, insoluble in water
and easily miscible with most plasticizers.
Surface Coatings
EDENOL® BS can serve as a non-gelatinizing
plasticizer for clear and pigmented nitrocellulose
lacquers, and for best results should be used in
combination with a suitable gelatinizing plasticizer,
e.g. EDENOL® 344.
The properties which can be achieved with this
product are good low temperature, light and water
resistance. An improvement in sandability is
achieved if EDENOL® BS is used in nitrocellulose
wood lacquers. Beside HD Ocenol D, it can also be
used to advantage in duplicating stencils based on
nitrocellulose, as well as proportionally in varnishes
on a flexible substrate, e.g. leather or paper. Finally,
EDENOL® BS is compatible with cellulose ethers
and polyvinyl butyral, but it is not suitable for
plasticizing cellulose acetate, cellulose acetate
butyrate, polyvinyl acetate and polymethyl acrylate.
