It is stable during storage and does not turn rancid. It is easily soluble in most common organic solvents, insoluble in water and easily miscible with most plasticizers. Surface Coatings EDENOL® BS can serve as a non-gelatinizing plasticizer for clear and pigmented nitrocellulose lacquers, and for best results should be used in combination with a suitable gelatinizing plasticizer, e.g. EDENOL® 344. The properties which can be achieved with this product are good low temperature, light and water resistance. An improvement in sandability is achieved if EDENOL® BS is used in nitrocellulose wood lacquers. Beside HD Ocenol D, it can also be used to advantage in duplicating stencils based on nitrocellulose, as well as proportionally in varnishes on a flexible substrate, e.g. leather or paper. Finally, EDENOL® BS is compatible with cellulose ethers and polyvinyl butyral, but it is not suitable for plasticizing cellulose acetate, cellulose acetate butyrate, polyvinyl acetate and polymethyl acrylate.
