Non-gelatinizing plasticizer for lacquers
Butyl ester of a saturated fatty acid.
EDENOL® IBS is an non-gelatinizing plasticizer for
nitrocellulose lacquers, particularly clear formulations
for coating of furniture and paper. The characteristic
advantages of this plasticizer are: The improvement
of solvent release and sandability and - due to the
absence of any gelatinizing power - a notable
improvement of stackability, scratch resistance and
smoothness of the film surface.
As all secondary plasticizers, EDENOL® IBS shows
a tendency to exudate when films are exposed to
pressure and/or heat. The critical temperature of a
lacquer film consisting of approx. 60 % nitrocellulose
and approx. 40 % EDENOL® IBS is about 90 °C.
This detail should be taken into account, particularly
in connection with furniture lacquers which are
force-dried in heating tunnels.
