NUOSPERSE Wetting & Dispersing Agents SER-AD FA 625
Grinding Vehicle for Universal Colorants
GENERAL INFORMATION
SER-AD FA 625 is a specially formulated grinding liquid for pigments designed for formulating ethylene glycol-free colorants. These low viscous colorants may be used for in-plant and machine tinting systems
APPLICATION AND PROPERTIES
Universal colorants based on SER-AD FA 625 may be used for the shading of aqueous and organic solvent-based paints. Up to 10% of a colorant may be added to a paint. Properly prepared colorant formulations have displayed an excellent performance in the trade sales of coating systems based on alkyds or emulsions. SER-AD FA 625 may be used as a grinding vehicle and/or combined with apolar organic solvents such as mineral spirits (low aromatics), propylene glycol-methylether or diethylene glycolmonoethylether. Generally, the addition of up to approx. 10% of a more polar organic solvent such as water will improve the rheological properties of the colorant. The colorant based on SER-AD FA 625 may be modified with an extender and/or additional surfactants, such as SER-AD FA 601, to give optimum results.
FEATURE -> CONSEQUENCE
Strong adsorption on a wide range of pigments
-> improved color development
-> better and faster dispersion
-> reduces rub-up and color float
Low molecular weight
-> maximum pigmentloading
-> optimal cost/performance ratio
Organic solvent-free
-> can be used in NO-VOC tinters and paints
DOSAGE
The quantity of SER-AD FA 625 to be added should be determined experimentally and depends a.o. on the surface characteristics of the pigments, the solvent used in combination with SER-AD FA 625 and the required performance of the coating. It is recommended to start the laboratory trails at a concentration of approx. 30% SER-AD FA 625, calculated on the total weight of the colorant. At least half of the amount should be added to the milling paste, while the remaining quantity can be post-added. The colorants should be prepared on a pearl-mill or sand-mill. The maximum pigment concentration attainable with a SER-AD FA 625-solvent mixture is approx. 30% for organic pigments and 65% for inorganic pigments. These colorants are still fluid and can be dosed easily. Please also refer to the starting formulations, which will be sent upon request.
