Zinc stearate is the zinc salt of distilled, hydrogenated fatty acids. Products vary in final form to
accommodate end-user processing variations.
Zinc Stearate ED-HS (powder or pastille) is used as a processing lubricant in polyethylene where heat
stability is important. The pastille form avoids dust generation. Zinc Stearate #42, having a very fine
particle size, is used for uniform cell nucleation in expandable polystyrene. Zinc Stearate #42 is also used as
a lubricant with urea- and melamine-formaldehyde resins. Lubrazinc ® W (zinc stearate) or Zinc Stearate #11
is used as a lubricant in fiber-reinforced polyesters.
