Soluble in most organic solvents
ETHOCEL* ethylcellulose resins are versatile, organosoluble, thermoplastic polymers. They result from the reaction of ethyl chloride with alkali cellulose. Raw materials include cotton linters and wood pulp. Ethylcellulose resins are widely used for coating, film forming, binding, and enhancing the performance of many different products such as industrial coatings.
The toughness, inertness, and fabrication and product versatility of these polymers allow them to meet a wide range of performance requirements in sheet form, as molding and extrusion resins, as pressure casting resins, and as resins for various coatings.
ETHOCEL Premium resins are odorless, colorless, and film-forming, and they meet the requirements of numerous FDA regulations for food applications. They are used in the formation of protective coatings, as binders, and as flavor fixatives. They are also safe for use in food contact applications.
Industrial coatings
ETHOCEL* ethylcellulose polymers are used to modify varnishes to help produce, tough, long-lasting surface finishes.
For these applications, ETHOCEL* polymers are used for alkali resistance, bronzing, electrical insulation, fabric coatings, strippable coatings, adhesives, and paper coatings. ETHOCEL is also utilized in gel lacquers for generator field coils and glass bottles.
ETHOCEL polymers possess qualities that make them unique and economically advantageous. The tough ETHOCEL polymers dissolve readily in most organic solvents, are inert to most alkalis and are compatible with plasticizers, waxes, oils, and other resins.
ETHOCEL polymers exhibit dimensional stability, heat stability, and low ash content. These polymers provide the following performance contributions: coating strength, water resistance, high gloss, and solvent resistance to products without adding color, odor, or taste
Printing inks
Used as hot melts for textile printing inks, ETHOCEL* ethylcellulose polymers offer excellent compatibility with other ink components such as resins, solvents, and pigments.
ETHOCEL* ethylcellulose polymers are used as binders in printing inks and contribute to abrasion-resistant dry ink films. These polymers are very compatible with many solvents, pigments, and other resins. ETHOCEL is also used as the base resin in solvent-free hot melt inks.
ETHOCEL polymers offer ink formulators a number of essential qualities. They dissolve readily in most organic solvents. The polymers are compatible with other ink components such as resins, solvents, and pigments. ETHOCEL polymers also form tough, abrasion-resistant ink films upon drying.
In formulation, ETHOCEL polymers offer processing versatility not always available with other resins and can be used in conventional solvent-borne ink systems. The thermoplastic nature of ETHOCEL polymers makes an ideal choice in heat transfer or hot melt ink systems.
