Its solubility, excellent pigment-wetting characteristics, and wide compatibility with natural and synthetic polymers make it useful in a variety of applications, including hot-melt, pressure-sensitive and emulsion adhesives, and printing inks. Resinous, tacky; wide range of solubility and compatibility; pale color and good color retention; excellent pigment wetting. Compatible at all ratios, or in limited but practically useful proportions, with nitrocellulose, ethylcellulose, chlorinated rubber, polyvinylchloride, vinylacetate-chloride copolymers, polyvinylbutyral, polyethylene, natural and synthetic rubbers, shellac, vegetable oils, and waxes. Partially compatible with acrylic polymers. Incompatible with cellulose acetate, polyvinylacetate, casein. Pale, tacky, low-softening-point phthalate ester of technical hydroabietyl alcohol. Used in printing inks. Offers very good pigment-wetting characteristics, and wide compatibility with natural and synthetic polymers. Gives good color retention.
