EASTMAN Ester Gum 8D synthetic resin, a pale, hard, thermoplastic resin, is the glycerol ester of wood rosin. It is produced by a special process that yields a low odor, low acid number product. EASTMAN Ester Gum 8D synthetic resin has been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as a masticatory ingredient in chewing gum compositions. It is also used as a resin modifier for film formers, elastomers, and waxes, and in various adhesives, inks, and protective coating compositions where minimum odor is a requirement.
Pale color; low acid number; good adhesion and tack producing properties; broad solubility and compatibility ranges; low odor. Eastman Ester Gum 8D synthetic resin is also economical to use.
Compatible in useful proportions with ethylcellulose, polystyrene, natural and synthetic rubbers, many natural and synthetic resins, waxes, and most vinyl resins.
