It is produced by a special process (steam stripping) that yields a low odor, low acid number product. The gylcerol ester of tall oil rosin has been authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as a masticatory ingredient in chewing gum compositions. It can also be used in adhesives, inks, and protective coating compositions where minimum odor is a requirement. Pale color; low acid number; good adhesion and tack producing properties; broad solubility and compatibility ranges; low odor. Compatible at all ratios, or in limited but practically useful proportions, with ethylcellulose, polystyrene, natural and synthetic rubbers, many natural and synthetic resins, waxes, and most vinyl resins. Pale, hard, thermoplastic glycerol ester of tall oil rosin. Used in low odor inks, and protective coating compositions. Offers low odor, low acid number, good adhesion and tack and compatibility with ethylcellulose, polystyrene, natural and synthetic rubbers, many natural and synthetic resins, waxes, and most vinyl resins.
