EASTMAN Ester Gum 8D-SP synthetic resin, a pale, hard, thermoplastic resin, is the glycerol ester of tall oil rosin. It is produced by a special process (steam stripping) that yields a low odor, low acid number product. The gylcerol ester of tall oil rosin has been authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as a masticatory ingredient in chewing gum compositions. It can also be used in adhesives, inks, and protective coating compositions where minimum odor is a requirement.
Pale color; low acid number; good adhesion and tack producing properties; broad solubility and compatibility ranges; low odor.
Compatible at all ratios, or in limited but practically useful proportions, with ethylcellulose, polystyrene, natural and synthetic rubbers, many natural and synthetic resins, waxes, and most vinyl resins.
