The product is designed for use in oxidatively drying solvent borne as well as water borne paints. PHYSICAL PROPERTIES Appearance : clear brown liquid Mn-content : approx 1.50 % Density, 20 °C : approx. 975 kg/m3 Viscosity, 20 °C : max. 50 mPa.s Solubility : soluble in aromatic solvents, acetone and methanol, soluble in water Flash point : > 62 ºC APPLICATION AND PROPERTIES Driers are used in air-drying coating systems to catalyze the polymerization process. Cobaltcarboxylates are the most widely used driers. However, cobalt compounds may indirectly be implicated as carcinogen suspects. Hence, cobalt-containing paints are not being granted for environmental awards, like for the Blue Angel in Germany. DAPRO® 8008 is a good alternative for cobalt driers in systems where cobalt is not allowed. Moreover, DAPRO® 8008 is the preferred drier for use in alkyd resin based varnishes; replacing cobalt drier with DAPRO® 8008 typically results in a lighter color of the liquid varnishes. Usually DAPRO® 8008 provides similar total dry characteristics in the medium oil alkyd paints and outperforms the traditional manganese based driers. In long-oil alkyd resin based paints slightly longer drying times and lowering of film hardness have been registered, which may be equalized reformulating the binder composition. Feature Consequence ? Unique manganese complex - replaces cobalt! -may be used in “Blue Angel” awarded paints -best color in urethane alkyd ? Liquid - easy to dose -for water borne and solvent borne paints - best performance in medium-oil alkyds Cobalt-free drier. Unique manganese co-ordination compound.
