No single product is adequate for all applications. Dapro Foam Suppressors are based on a variety of active materials to provide air release and bubble-breaking in most coatings, inks and similar materials. Dapro Foam Suppressors are more broadly usable than competitive materials. However, all defoamers and anti-foams are to some degree formula specific. Always evaluate several Dapro Foam Suppressors to determine the most effective one for any given formula. Effectiveness Dapro Silicone-Free Foam Suppressors can be used to prevent foam formation during mixing, and provide rapid bubble-breaking in applied wet films. Those based on Metallic Salts of Fatty Acid (DF 880, DF 881S and DF 4164) are especially effective in preventing bubbling and pinholing that may result from roller application. Dispersions of Olefinic Solids (DF 900, DF 911, DF 944, DF 975) are noted for effectiveness over a wide pH range and excellent long-term stability. Within the group, DF 911 and DF 944 resist cratering, and often provide improved flow and leveling. Modified Polyol Foam Suppressors can be used in a broad range of applications and are especially effective in waterborne flexographic and gravure inks. They contain no aromatics and can be used during manufacture of the ink, or on the press with no swelling of natural or synthetic rubber plates. DF 1492 should be used when an immediate short-term effect is needed, and DF 1760 and DF 3163 when long-term effectiveness is required. Dapro Foam Suppressors based on hydrophobic silica/hydrocarbon (DF 2162 and DF 5165) are effective in a broad range of applications and are exceptionally cost effective. Dapro Silicone-Modified Foam Suppressors (DF 1161 and DF 1181) are especially effective in preventing foam caused by milling, mixing, or continuous agitation during manufacture or application. They are highly resistant to emulsification, and remain effective after extended storage of the systems in which they are used. DF 1161 is also an effective bubble-breaker in roller-applied coatings. Optimum results are often achieved by using either DF 1161 or DF 1181 in the mill base, and a Dapro Silicone-Free Foam Suppressor in the let down. Recommended Levels of Use Dapro Silicone-Free Foam Suppressors should be evaluated at levels of 2 to 6 pounds per 100 gallons (0.2-0.6% by weight) based on finished formula. One-half should be added during milling and the remainder during let down. DF 1492 is generally less efficient and should be evaluated at 10 to 30 pounds per 100 gallons (1-3%) based on total formula. Dapro DF 1161 and DF 1181 should be evaluated at 0.5 to 2 pounds per 100 gallons (0.05-2.0% by weight) based on total formula. For maximum efficiency, they should be added as early in the manufacturing process as practical. Greatest overall effectiveness in preventing foam during manufacture and application is often achieved by using 0.5-2 pounds (0.05-0.2%) of DF 1181 or DF 1161 in the mill base and 2-3 pounds (0.2-0.3%) of one of the Dapro Silicone-freeFoam Suppressors in the let down. Silicone-modified disperion of olefinic solids foam suppressor. Effective in preventing foam caused by milling, mixing, or continuous agitation during manufacture or application. Highly resistant to emulsification, and remains effective after extended storage of the systems in which it is used. Effective bubble-breaker in roller-applied coatings. Provides excellent bubble resistance when mixing, excellent effective over wide pH range, excellent bubble resistance on roll-out, excellent long-term stability, excellent ease of incorporation, excellent resistance to crawling and fish eyes. Recommended usage level: 0.05-2.0% by weight based on total formula. For maximum efficiency, should be added as early in the manufacturing process as practical. Greatest overall effectiveness in preventing foam during manufacture and application is often achieved by using 0.05-0.2% of it in the mill base and 0.2-0.3% of one of the Dapro silicone-free foam suppressor in the let down. Can be used in high gloss coatings, wood lacquers & stains, clear overprint varnishes. FDA-cleared 175.170. Non-volatile components 176.180, 176.200.
