Disperse-Ayd 15 is a pigment dispersing vehicle that can be used without modification to prepare concentrated dispersions of most pigments for use in a wide range of high-performance, solventborne coatings.
Compatibility and effectiveness
Pigment dispersions made from Disperse-Ayd 15 have shown trouble-free performance in coatings based on two-component urethane, polyester, vinyl, vinyl acrylic, nitrocellulose, cellulose acetate butyrate, two-component epoxy, epoxy ester, short-oil alkyd, vinyl toluene alkyd and chlorinated rubber. They also have excellent compatibility with long-oil, medium-oil and chain-stopped alkyds.
Broadest compatibility will be achieved when blends of PM Acetate and Aromatic 100 are used in let down as indicated in the typical formulations below. Disperse-Ayd 15 can be diluted with other aromatics, esters and ketones.
Dispersions based on Disperse-Ayd 15 can be used in air-dry and bake finishes at levels up to 20% to provide uniform color without adversely affecting drying time, gloss, exterior durability or chemical resistance.
Disperse-Ayd 15 as Mill Base Dispersing Aid
Disperse-Ayd 15 may be used as a dispersing agent to improve the wetting properties of acrylic, polyester, vinyl, epoxy, short-oil alkyd, vinyl toluene alkyd and similar vehicles. It will reduce mill base viscosity, dilatancy and milling time, and help the dispersion achieve full color strength and chroma. Disperse-Ayd 15 will help stabilize the finished dispersion, and reduce or eliminate the tendency of some pigments to float, flood, flocculate, or settle.
Use Disperse-Ayd 15 to replace 2-3% of the vehicle in the mill base portion of the formula. This may result in a lower viscosity, which in turn, will allow production at higher pigment loading. When used at recommended levels, Disperse-Ayd 15 will not adversely affect drying time, gloss, exterior durability, or chemical resistance.
Disperse-Ayd Multifunctional Dispersing Agents do much more than simple surfactants. Whether used as additives or as the grinding vehicles for highly concentrated dispersions, they wet and deflocculate pigments without causing foaming or adversely affecting the film properties of your finished coating.
No Dispersant Conventional Dispersant Dipserse-Ayd
Simple stirring wets out pigment to get ready for milling.
The right Disperse-Ayd Dispersant in your waterborne or high-performance, solventborne coatings will provide:
Rapid pigment wetting Good flow at high pigment loading
Increased mill output Maximum tinting strength development
Full chroma development Elimination of floating, flooding and rub-up
Compatibility in a broad range of coatings Long-term viscosity stability
Optimum initial gloss and gloss retention Elimination of hard settling
