特效颜料 >> 类珍珠色颜料 Special effect pigments >> Pearlescent pigment Engelhard Mearlite luster pigments impart a range of optical effects from a soft, satin luster to a sharp, metallic brilliance in plastics, coatings and inks. These effects are due to plate-like crystals of bismuth oxychloride that have a silver-white and transparent appearance. Mearlite pigments are available as dry flakes (100% pigment) and as dispersions in a variety of vehicles (e.g., alkyd, acrylic and nitrocellulose) compatible with dip or spray coatings, inks and plastic resin systems. When used alone in spray coatings, Mearlite pigments create a simulated pearl finish. When used as a reflective surface under transparent color coatings, they provide a candy apple effect. Mearlite pigments also can create intense, lustrous colors when combined with organic pigments or dyes. Engelhard offers Mearlite pigments for both exterior and interior applications. Beyond coating, plastic and ink applications, Mearlite pigments are used extensively in button manufacturing and cosmetics/personal care packaging. Mearlite product grades Mearlite Ultra Bright grade provides the highest brilliance of any synthetic pearlescent pigment. It is the most widely used Mearlite grade for coatings, inks and polyester castings, and frequently is an ideal replacement for lead-based pearls. Mearlite Radiant Pearl grade combines the brilliance of Ultra Bright pigments with a surface treatment to reduce darkening by ultraviolet light. When formulated with UV absorbers, this grade is well-suited for exterior coatings. Mearlite Ultra Fine grade balances high luster and small particle size for use where larger pearlescent pigments cannot be applied. Mearlite BFI grade consists of dry flake pigments that impart a soft, satin-like appearance, particularly desirable in upscale packaging applications. Mearlite GPN grade provides satin luster where high brilliance is not required. In furniture coatings, for example, it brings out or highlights the natural wood grain and enhances gloss.
