Base Materials for 2-part Silicone Formulations
Silicone-based 2-part formulations are used in many applications. These include dental impression materials and other elastic molds, as well as adhesives, coatings, casting and encapsulating materials for electrical and electronic applications.
Pure silicone elastomers have only moderately good mechanical properties, that can usually be improved by the addition of suitable fillers like fumed silica or quartz. Another way to improve the mechanical resistance of silicone elastomers is to add so-called QM resins. These consist of Q units (SiO 4/2) and M-units (Me3SiO1/2) and are usually soluble in vinyl siloxanes. The hanse chemie VQM series products are preparations of QM resins and vinyl siloxanes, with the M-units containing vinyl groups. This makes these products especially suitable for producing transparent formulations with good characteristics.
Preparation of QM resin and vinyl siloxane. Used as an additive in 2-part silicone formulation for coatings. Improves mechanical resistance of silicone elastomers. Produces transparent formulations with good characteristics.
