Polycup® 172LX Crosslinking Agent is a water-soluble,
polyamide-epichlorohydrin crosslinking
agent for carboxylated SBR latices, CMC, polyvinyl
alcohol, and other water-soluble polymers. It also
reacts with starch to impart water resistance. In
latex-based adhesives, the addition of as little as
0.5% Polycup solids, based on latex solids, will
increase green bond strength of the adhesive and
improve its modulus, tensile strength, and
dimensional stability.
Has significant advantage over other
commercially available neutral-cure polyamide
resins in that it contributes significantly less to
the formation of chlorinated organic compounds
in effluent streams and finished products
Contains no formaldehyde
Cures under neutral pH conditions
Easy-to-handle liquid
Use With Starch: Starch-based coatings and
adhesives can be made water-resistant by adding
Polycup resin to the starch either prior to cooking or
afterwards, in amounts ranging from 2 to 20% resin
solids, based on starch solids.
Polycup® 172LX
Low chlorinated organic residual version of Polycup 172
Use With Sodium Carboxymethylcellulose
(CMC): Polycup resins can be used with CMC to
develop water-insoluble films and coatings with good
flexibility and strength. The addition of 5 to 10%
Polycup solids to a CMC composition will make it
essentially insoluble. However, the composition will
remain somewhat water-sensitive, and it will swell to
a slight degree in the presence of water.
Use With Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA): PVA alone
does not produce a water-resistant coating.
However, a high degree of water resistance can be
imparted to PVA coatings and films by adding 5 to
10% Polycup resin solids to PVA solids.
Low chlorinated organic residual, water-soluble, formaldehyde-free, polyamide-epichlorohydrin. Used as a crosslinking agent for starch-based coatings, in combination with CMC to develop water-insoluble films and coatings with good flexibility and strength, and in combination with PVA to formulate PVA coatings and films. Provides water resistance. Cures under neutral pH conditions.
