Scripset ® Resins (Styrene Maleic Anhydride Copolymers)
as a starch modifier in coatings to give increased water resistance, as an alkali removal component in water and organic-based coatings, as an antiblock component and a solvent in coatings, and as a binder component in inks and photoresist coating.
Scripset® 540 is a copolymer of styrene and maleic
anhydride (>1:1 mole ratio) with approximately a
180,000 weight average molecular weight. The
maleic groups have been esterified with a low
molecular weight alcohol to impart additional
functional properties. It is a fine, off-white, free
flowing powder with a faint, aromatic odor.
Scripset 540 is readily soluble in alkaline aqueous
systems and is typically made utilizing Ammonium
Hydroxide, Sodium Hydroxide, Potassium Hydroxide,
but Soda Ash, Sodium Borate, and Amines can also
be used. Scripset 540 is also soluble in a variety of
organic solvents including alcohols, ketones, ethyl
acetate and co-solvents (Xylene/Butanol). Solutions
made from this powder demonstrate excellent
stability under the proper storage conditions.
Excellent stability under proper storage conditions
Readily soluble in both alkaline aqueous systems and in certain organic solvents
Excellent film former
High molecular weight
Dried films provide excellent water resistance
Scripset 540 resin is typically used in surface
treatment applications of paper for sizing, porosity
reduction and surface strength enhancement.
Typical uses outside of the paper industry include
applications as a pigment dispersant, emulsifier,
binder, and viscosity modifier.
High molecular weight, styrene/maleic anhydride copolymer, esterified with a low molecular weight butyl methyl ester. Used as a starch modifier in coatings to give increased water resistance, as an alkali removal component in water and organic-based coatings, as an antiblock component and a solvent in coatings, and as a binder component in inks and photoresist coating. Provides very good stability and film formation.
