GBL-EL is currently used in the manufacture of printed circuit
boards as a developer in solder mask and conformal coatings.
With the growing impetus for PCB manufacturers to phase out
CFCs, the utility of GBL-EL has expanded into other
electronics applications including semi-aqueous defluxing and
degreasing.
g-Butyrolactone -EL is a colorless, high boiling, low odor liquid and a good solvent. It is soluble in alcohols, aromatic hydrocarbons, esters, ethers, ketones and water, and only partially miscible with aliphatic hydrocarbons. GBL is slightly hygroscopic.
