ALCOGUM? polymers are pre-activated high molecular weight rheology modifiers used to viscosify a wide range of adhesive compounds. ALCOGUM thickeners provide stable viscosity over a broad pH range and are resistant to biological degradation.
ALCOGUM 296-W is recommended as a stabilizer, protective colloid, and thickener for water
based systems, such as natural and synthetic rubber latices, and polymeric dispersions, such as
polyvinyl acetate and polyacrylate emulsions. It possesses unique adhesive, suspending,
emulsifying, and film-forming characteristics, making it ideal for other industrial uses.
ALCOGUM 296-W is a high viscosity aqueous solution of sodium polyacrylate. It is an anionic
colloid furnished as a whitish colored homogeneous solution.
ALCOGUM 296-W is stable in the entire alkaline range and in the presence of small quantities of
dilute inorganic acids down to a pH of 4.5 with some resultant loss in viscosity with decreasing
pH. Continued addition of inorganic acids results in increased turbidity of the acrylic solution,
followed by precipitation.
